365 Days in SF

365 Days in SF

A year ago today, I left North Carolina, a place I’d called home for 8 years and moved to San Francisco.

I was freaked out, even though I’d lived here for years when I was teenager dancing with the SF Ballet and had traveled back on so many occasions to spend time with my niece and nephew…

Looking back, my anxiety was warranted because no matter what the circumstances, uprooting and moving is hard as hell. I was shell-shocked the first few months. Most days, I just had to put one foot in front of the other in a haze of groundlessness, feeling extremely isolated in this bustling city.

Letting go of old ways of life and floundering to build a new scene was difficult. I found comfort in nature; hiking along coastal trails to amazing places like Sutro Baths grounded me. My heart knew moving was the right decision, and while my head was slow to catch up, routines began to take hold and new activities made way for burgeoning friendships.

Despite the emotional turmoil, I can’t believe what an amazingly wonderful year it’s been - way beyond my expectations. I’m grateful to a variety of lovely individuals and organizations that have supported me in minor and major ways over the last 365 days. Check out today's Instagram post for details...
